9. Animal Farm
I reasoned that, since I had tried all the values from the milker, I was nearing the completion of this mystery. Who was at fault, Francis the Chicken or Farmer Ben. Both?
I made my way to the milker, and keyed in the entire milker combination:
Pitchfork, Water Droplet, Pitchfork, Water Droplet, Water Droplet, Pitchfork, Salt Shaker, Water Droplet, Pitchfork.
Sure enough, the vault opened, and inside were three pages. One was the yellow page Farmer Ben wanted, another the pink page which Francis the Chicken so desired, and one was a small letter 'a'.
Who should I trust? I decided that I could trust nobody. I took the 'a' page, took it to the Animal Farm book, and inserted it.
The 'a' in the title reappeared, and a linking panel with Torus appeared on the book. He said to me, "Thankyou for restoring my link. Ar, pardon me for one moment."
Torus turned his attention to the linking book containing Francis the Chicken. A red laser beam came from his left eye, destroying the book. He did the same with Farmer Ben's. "Oh, reward, ah, here's a new genre of nose ring I've discovered. And you can use the salt whenever you like. Ta ta!"
Torus disappeared, leaving a green nose ring on top of the bookcase. I kept it for keepsakes, and, since my mission was complete, I decided to return to D'ni, where Catherine would anxiously be waiting for me.
I took my D'ni linking book out of my pack, went to a secluded part of the island, and linked back to D'ni. If Torus ever finds the book, it probably won't be the end of the world, whatever he does with it.
